Europe at the Crossroads - The Feasibility of a European Vision

Welfare, wealth and work have always been closely connected to the European vision. However, in recent years it has become apparent that there are certain challenges facing a long-term prosperous development in these areas. The research consortium WWWforEurope, founded in 2012, has made it its objective to analyze these challenges and develop feasible strategies for a socially, economically and ecologically sustainable future.

In line with the general theme of Alpbach 2014, WWWforEurope seeks to exhibit a series of strategies and best practices for a Europe “At the Crossroads”. Therefore some first results of the project WWWforEurope will be presented and summarized at a press conference at the European Forum. Download the new Midterm Project Information (PDF).

Topics presented in Alpbach will include the need for strategic planning of social, economical and ecological renewal after the crisis in Europe. European governance on different levels has already set benchmarks and best practices towards a socio-ecological transition – such as efforts in Austria, Scandinavia and EU agrarian policy. These will be presented at the conference. Moreover a critical perspective on European developments will be provided from the US-point of view: The project and some first results will be commented by Jeffrey D. Sachs, who is also a member of the WWWforEurope scientific board.
