Policy options 2015 10 10 186 The report summarized the main contents that were presented at the Second WWWforEurope Feedback Conference, taking place on May 6th 2015 in Vienna. After 38 months of extensive work on essential questions for Europe’s future with a particular focus on laying the analytical basis for a socio-ecological transition the conference marked the end of the second phase, the policy formulation phase, of the project, as well as the beginning of the third phase, the synthesis phase. Moreover, it was dedicated to collect impulses for the project’s synthesis report, which represents the main output at the end of the project. For this purpose, external experts and stakeholder representatives from European/international institutions, social partners, NGOs and academia joined the conference and had the possibility to directly give feedback to outputs of the project. A collection of written statements provided by the stakeholders reflect how different research groups, partners and stakeholders approach the core issues of the project. Beside contributions of Karl Aiginger (project coordinator) and Catherine Mann (OECD), the report further includes five Area Chapters representing the results of the work of the five WWWforEurope Research Areas. Beyond GDP; Challenges for welfare system; Economic strategy; European economic policy; European governance; European Monetary Union; Gender; High road strategy; Industrial policy; Innovation policy; Institutional reforms; Socio-ecological transition; Welfare state I31, O3 fileadmin/documents/pdf/Deliverables/WWWforEurope_DEL_no10_D602.4.pdf MichaelBöheim AnnaStrauss TeresaWeiss incollection WWWforEurope_DEL_no07_D602.2 Towards monitoring a socio-ecological transition 2015 7 7 58 The achievement of individual well-being while guaranteeing a sustainable development path represents an important objective of a socio-ecological transition. This objective indicates that targets referring to the economic, social and environmental dimensions are taken into account simultaneously. However, so far too little attention has been paid to the problems and opportunities of monitoring such a transition process. The identification of building blocks derived from the WWWforEurope project’s vision for Europe in 2050 allows attaining measurability and hence breaking down the complexity inherent in the transition objective. Based on the distinction between the environmental, social and economic dimensions, synergies and trade-offs are derived and analysed indicating possible conflicts between the aspects of the three dimensions. The investigation of those conflicts reveals to be highly important for detecting progress in the transition process. This deliverable introduces a new approach for designing a tool for monitoring a socio-ecological transition. However, more research is needed to be able to bring the tool into action. In particular, a more detailed elaboration of the synergies and trade-offs would improve the accuracy of the monitoring tool.
