Heads of Economic Research Institutes meet on a post crisis research agenda in Paris

 

On June 20th, Karl Aiginger, director of the Austrian Institute for Economic Research (WIFO) and coordinator of the WWWforEurope project, gave a lecture on "the necessity and feasibility of a new growth path for Europe" in a seminar at OECD in Paris. The final goal of the lecture was to connect the WWWforEurope project with the "OECD New Approaches Project".

The lecture took place on the afternoon preceding this year's NERO Meeting, in which the directors of leading economic research institutes in Europe, Asia, US and Australia discussed research results and policy strategies. The topic of year's meeting was "Evidence based Economic Policies in the Aftermath of the Crisis".

The following topics were discussed: extremely accommodating monetary policy, growth oriented fiscal consolidation, post crisis structural reforms, and European strategies. Karl Aiginger presented empirically based research on restarting growth in a period of budget consolidation.
