Within the scope of its activities, fifteen researchers from the Area 5 of the WWWforEurope project met on October 25-26, 2012, at the Jena University of Applied Sciences, Germany, to discuss research issues concerning the role of regions in the socio-ecological transition of Europe.
Peter Huber, WIFO, during a public lecture, presented options for the development of peripheral EU regions in the context of the economic crisis. He drew on recent developments in Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain to identify cases where competitiveness and sustainability are addressed jointly, in national and regional policies.
The research results are available in the second WWWforEurope policy brief.
